Who knew that it would be the name of its baseball club 17 years later.Īt the time there wasn’t a professional baseball club in town but plans were revealed to build a ballpark in time for the 2004 season. I was a freshly transplanted young man from New Jersey and looking up into the sky to see a candy-striped red water tower with the words “FLORENCE Y’ALL” was a strong reminder that I wasn’t on the east coast anymore. When I lived in Cincinnati and would travel in Northern Kentucky it was one of the first things I would see from the interstate. The rebranding of the Florence Freedom to the Florence Y’alls is more than just that a fleeting new name, you may even say it was destiny that began 46-years-ago with a building of a water tower and a shopping mall. The first game is Tuesday at 6:32 p.m.To many, the new name of the Florence Professional Baseball Club is just another wacky nickname that follows along with a trend of other equally silly nicknames the past decade.
